Message	and bigger wheels were not in style back then. While I agree that 17" wheels in the stock design with those widths would be perfect by today's standards, there's no way Nissan could've predicted how future trends would go and, even if they could, they would not have catered to it because it probably wouldn't have sold cars THEN. It's like saying guys in the 70's and 80's should've worn baggy pants and cut their hair short. Times change.
